Whites Prizm V Metal Detector
A Review of Whites Prizm V
The Prizm V is a tough metal detector to review. After all, each detector has its benefits and drawbacks; and if you take the time to figure the one you have out, you will enjoy hunting with it. Here are the pros and cons of the Prizm V...
Benefits of the Prizm V
It's lightweight. You can detect for hours and not get tired. Its accuracy in locating deep objects is good. It's able to identify objects well. If it indicates you found a quarter, you found a quarter.
Drawbacks of the Prizm V
Its line of coils are not very expansive. There is a rumor, though, that White's is developing new coils. When locating an object, it takes awhile to tell you. It is not as deep as some other detectors. Those are really the only drawbacks.
This model is pretty enjoyable to hunt with. Although you do not have many coils, the two that come with it are satisfactory. But not in places where there is a lot of junk. You will need a 5" coil when hunting in trashy areas. In addition, I think it should include a 12" coil as well.
Although the I haven't gone extremely deep with the Prizm V, I have found items as deep as 7".
There are 8 tones to help you hunt, which is great so you don't have to pay attention to the display all the time. When you power the device up, you will only get a single tone, so you have to hit the multi-tone button to get all eight tones. If you depress the key for three seconds, you will get 3 tones.
Pinpointing with the Prizm V
Pinpointing with this machine is great, and the object will usually be found at the middle on either the 9.5" or 8" coil.
This model uses VCO pinpointing. This feature is designed to alter the tone to a higher pitch when you are directly over an object.
If you remove the default settings, the Prizm V is a very quiet device. You will be able to ignore foil and nails. It is so quiet that I initially had to turn the device off and start it up again in order to assure myself that it was working. Thanks to the touch pad, you will be able to switch modes as you hunt.
The Prizm V is a middle-of-the-road metal detector, neither awesome nor horrible. If you are thinking of getting a Prizm, you should know that of the detectors in the price range, this one works as advertised.
Other Prizm metal detectors work effectively too and don't have as many features; so this model is for hunters who are looking for everything.
