Learn The History and Categories of Whites Metal Detectors

Whites metal detectors are among the finest in the industry. They make a variety of models that can detect metal for different purposes. There are metal detectors made specifically for treasure hunters, while other detectors help identify property stakes or buried copper pipes.

History of White's Metal Detectors

White’s Metal Detectors got their start back in 1950 during a uranium craze in the United States. The government paid handsomely for uranium and many prospectors had high hopes of striking it rich. Ken White Sr. was one of those searching for uranium, and after using a Geiger counter with headphones for a while, Ken White realized he could build a better machine.

Starting out slow, he and a partner began building and selling metal detectors. Over the years, business grew quickly until it became one of the most prominent companies in the industry.

Today, White’s Electronics, Inc is a worldwide provider of some of the best metal detectors made anywhere. Corporate Headquarters are located in Sweet Home, Oregon and there is also a major plant in Scotland. There are local distributors throughout the United States and other countries around the world. As of today, customers in the United States and Canada can order products online through their website.

White's Metal Detector Categories

Products are categorized as Series. The Spectra, E, Prizm, Coin master and Beach Series provide metal detectors of all different prices and capabilities.

Serious treasure hunters may want to go with the Spectra V3i which can reach deep below the surface of the earth to detect metal. The Spectra V3i has 9 preset hunting programs and a HD color display. Technology is built in to differentiate base metals like iron and to indicate when a valuable metal like gold is detected.

There are about 15 metal detectors that are used to hunt for lost coins, jewelry and other precious and semi-precious metals. You can read reviews on the DFX, Matrix M6, MXT and White's Prizm series here.

There are also several models used by professionals to screen passengers at airports and other sites where security is a top priority. Finally, utility companies and professionals such as electricians and plumbers use Whites metal detectors to identify areas where there may be buried wires, cable or tanks.

Metal detecting can be a fun way to get some healthy exercise and also have a chance to find some valuable buried treasure. You can search anywhere you might think metal items might have been lost. Personal accounts of all sorts of finds keep people coming to White’s year after year. Electricians, cable installers, plumbers and security agents all use White’s when they want a reliable and accurate metal detector.

White's Spectra V3 - My Own Experience

During the time I have been detecting, I have employed a number of detectors. Several of them were manufactured by White's, including my first one, which was a 5900 di pro. I kept this model for quite awhile, and uncovered a lot of excellent items using it.

Then I bought White's Spectra V3. This model was simply awesome. It has exactly what I need in a detector, and there are no other models that come close. Some people are simply looking for silver coins, but I am looking for anything that has been buried for a long time, and even a bit of newer items too. This detector allows me to search for whatever I want with a simple adjustment.

White's metal detectors in general are not ideal for people who just starting out with detecting (i'd recommend Garrett or Minelab detectors for novices). The Spectra V3 -- at over $2500 retail -- is not for someone looking for a basic detecting device.

You can flip a switch and start detecting, but you're doing yourself a disservice. I know that this detector will be in my possession for a long time, and I won't have to replace it. This detector is already getting me far below the surface, and I really don't want to go any deeper.

As far as price goes, you are going to pay more for quality. This detector is worth $2500 as far as I'm concerned.
