Minelab X-Terra 30 Metal Detector
A Personal Review Of The X-Terra 30 Metal Detector by Minelab
Minelab's X-Terra detector is unquestionably one of the greatest buys at a reasonable price. The pinpointing is extremely accurate with a minimum of 98% at the middle coil. I did find, as others have, that it is not great detecting in the nickel/soda can tab range. You can't tell the difference.
The VDI is apparently accurate on the majority of objects that register at 28 or better on the scale. The X-Terra 30 is not majorly innovative or cutting edge, but it is a decent detector at a great price.
Works on Different Terrains
The screen is very readable, the TID seems to be pretty accurate, and the detector itself is well built. It is effective on any kind of terrain, even when using the preset ground balance. In the case that it becomes a bit jumpy, adjust the sensitivity a bit and it will become steady again.
It detects objects that are deep as well as most average detectors available. However, I do not think deep detecting is the major deciding feature. The majority of objects are not very deep, even if you have heard differently.
The overload circuit to find objects buried right under the surface is an excellent feature. By practicing a bit, hunters will be able to find some excellent objects with this detector. Beginning hunters are going to like that this detector is simple to operate. The shaft is a bit long if you are on the shorter side, and it is not adjustable; however, if you need to, it can be cut down.
Is it going to perform as well as a Nautilus? No, it won't, but not many detectors do. You won't need a lot of practice to master this model. As with most Minelab models, this detector is excellent and is very comparable to other detectors that are more expensive.
Conclusion on Minelab's X-Terra 30
Easy to operate, but strong, the X-Terra 30 is an excellent device. It will give you the performance you're looking for. Pinpointing with this machine is particularly effective. The only drawback to this machine is the rubber flap that covers the jack for headphones. However, that is not a major detriment. Overall, X-Terra by Minelab is an excellent machine for $400.
