Minelab Eureka Gold Metal Detector
The Eureka Gold Metal Detector by Minelab
Minelab's Eurkea Gold detector will help you find many small pieces of gold (less than 1g) as well as larger pieces of gold. You will need to practice with it, as you will with any detector. I purchased some small bits of gold varying in size from a shop that specializes in nuggets, and I took them to an area with 4 kinds of terrain. In order to adjust for the variety of soils, I worked at it for about 10 hours over the course of two days.
I put a few tiny nuggets at approximately 8, 6, and 4 inches deep, and was able to locate them easily with 60 khz with a dim signal. I put bigger nuggets at 14, 10, and 6 inches deep and was able to locate them at 20 khz without any problems.
Not a 'One Size Fits All' Detector
You have to realize that GB, sensitivity, and threshold all work together to create a detector that will penetrate the soil and go deep in the correct manner for the best hunting. Each kind of terrain will require a different mode on those three settings.
The machine is equipped with automatic ground balance. It uses multiple frequency advancements. There are no other brands that offer this feature, and even if they do (like with White's which rented the technology and have it in their top of the line detectors) they tend to detect a large number of hot rocks, which is why I sold mine.
If you are looking for pieces of gold, particularly if they are small, you want to hear a subtle change in the audio tone, which is also known as the threshold. After you detect the first piece of gold, the change in sound will be evident and detecting will become simple.
The basic aspect to searching for pieces of gold is to keep in mind that you aren't going to be immediately satisfied. However, you will be satisfied if you keep at it with the Eureka Gold detector.
