Fisher 1266X Metal Detector
The Fisher 1266X Is Long Lasting And Durable
I have owned my Fisher 1266X for a full 16 years and it is still working great. It has never needed to be fixed for any reason. You probably won't be able to find one of these on the Internet, even if they keep working for a long time. The reason for this is that no one wants to sell theirs. Sorry about that... .
High Sensitivity
This model will search very deep areas to find relics, and I have only seen one other model go as deep as this one (with the same coil size) and that is the recent Minelab's. The constant noise that is heard when using the model, which might bother new users, is an excellent way to discover iron deposits, which means the site used to be occupied.
In many detectors, you would have to detect in the "All-Metal" setting, which can be bothersome, or hope you are able to to detect another kind of metal when you first sweep the area so you know that there is something buried there.
With both the Fisher 1266 and 1265, you will be able to tell by the background noise that you have hit iron, and you will be able to use the discrimination settings to find even small amounts of iron.
Metal Detecting Finds
I have discovered bullets more than 12" deep from the Civil War in meadows of Virginia using this model. The sensitivity on this model, when you are able to use it to capacity, will make it seem like you are detecting with a 22" coil even if you are using the 12" coil. You will get decent signals of hits in areas you are not directly sweeping, so you will be notified that you need to sweep right over those areas.
If you have a lot of experience detecting, you will also be able to determine the size of the object, how deeply it is buried, and even what the object is as you cycle through the settings and listen to the actual beep.
A lot of the newer "ID" detectors do not differentiate between sounds. I would put my Fisher 1266X up against any of the "meter machines" that are priced about the same to determine which is better in depth accuracy, object identification, and object size.
