Bounty Hunter Pioneer EX Metal Detector
The Pioneer EX Metal Detector by Bounty Hunter
One of the Bounty Hunter Pioneer EX metal detectors greatest attributes is simplicity.
With the Pioneer EX I was able to determine how to locate items in approximately 1/2 hour and with 10 objects. I located the items and my holes were only approximately 6 inches big. The discrimination and sensitivity were fantastic. I was able to decipher the differences in tones to help my locate coins. This detector does not have a ton of capabilities, but it is a great machine at an affordable price.
I was going to purchase the 250 or 150 by Garret, but since I didn't know if my son would stay interested in this hobby, I decided to purchase this detector instead. I am very happy with my decision, and if he remains interested, I can always buy a more expensive model later. (Read more on kids metal detectors).
This device indicates 4 separate kinds of metals at 3 separate depths. It is nearly 100% accurate at identifying coins in my personal experience with this model. In addition, I was able to learn when it was actually identifying a bottle cap, a soda pull tab or aluminum foil.
Sensitivity of Bounty Hunter Pioneer EX - Great for Beginners
The 3 sensitivity settings and 4 discrimination settings are perfect for a person just starting out. It will usually locate objects at a maximum of 6" deep, and if I hear a coin tone, it is usually a coin that has been found.
I would suggest that people who are beginning detectors and have only a small amount of money to spend, buy this model. If it tells you it has found a coin, it usually has found a coin. If it tells you that it has detected more than one kind of metal, then it has located a bottle cap, a soda can tab, or aluminum foil.
A couple of drawbacks are that it does not come with a jack for headphones and it is difficult to pinpoint. Pinpointing becomes simpler if you use the machine a lot, or if you are on a beach because you can simply dig a large area. I slapped a piece of tape onto the speaker so it isn't so loud.
With this inexpensive mode, you are able to locate valuable objects that could possibly cover your purchase price. When you buy a White's model at $800, you might not be able to do this.
All in all, this detector is wonderful for the price you pay.
