Bounty Hunter Land Star Metal Detector
The Pros and Cons of A Bounty Hunter Land Star
I have spent more than 200 field hours with the Bounty Hunter Land Star detector, and I am still thrilled with it! It has some truly fantastic features. Let's take a look.
High Sensitivity
As with any other metal detector, you will still get some false readings. No detector is completely immune to this. But with this detector, you can greatly increase the level of treasure you find even as you reduce the amount of junk you pick up.
I like to put the sensitivity to the 2:00 position in the Auto Notch Mode. What you really want to listen for are repeated tones, don't worry so much about what type of tone it is, as long as it repeats. You should also ignore the item indicator; I have uncovered coins that the machine registered as being zinc. When I passed over the target again, the pitch of the tone increased, and the detector showed the object as being a penny or possibly a dime.
The main thing to remember is that if you are getting a tone every time you pass over the item, you should definitely check out what it is. Coins are always fun, but they aren't the only treasure. You can also find jewelry, and valuable civil war buttons. And the usual trash, of course.
Average Battery Life
Two 9v batteries will supply enough power for a Bounty Hunter Land Star metal detector to run for about 10 hours. This detector is a great value and definitely worth the price tag. Any detector you choose will still require some practice.
I like using mine at the beach, and have found a great deal of coins. (Just don't go in the water!) At the local school's ball field, I scored 3 coins in less than half an hour.
This detector will easily pick up anything that is between 4 and 6 inches deep. Most of my treasures in both sand and regular dirt were found at that level. You will want to read the manual carefully before using the Ground Tracking features.
High Resell Value
These detectors also resell for close to their original purchase price. They are moving on ebay for anywhere from 140 to 180. I just chose to switch over to a Minelab XS 2 that I picked up used. It will allow me to get more depth when I am searching sandy areas.
