Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker Metal Detector
Pros and Cons With The Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker
The Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker metal detector goes very deep and distinguishes objects well. Using the 7-inch coil that comes with it, I located a horseshoe about nine inches deep. At four inches deep, I discovered a U nail also called a fence staple that is designed to put up barbed wire. When I found the U nail, the detector gave me two steady tones as I put the coil right over it. I heard a tone when it passed every side of the U nail.

I purchased a 10" coil as well, and was very pleased with how deep it went. At more than 18 inches deep, I discovered the top portion of a Sinclair oil container! I received a steady tone right from the start. Also, you should know that I maxed out the sensitivity and used zero discrimination. In addition, I have discovered even tinier objects, such as a lead ball from the Civil War at approximately 5 inches deep.
Like most Bounty Hunter metal detectors, this model is very easy to operate. You only have to worry about two controls: the discrimination and the sensitivity. I maxed out the sensitivity and didn't get any false readings. You can put the discrimination at a point where soda can tabs will trigger a staggered tone, and all other objects will trigger a high tone or a low tone.
You can have the detector stay silent when it detects iron, or you can have it sound a short tone. I can only detect down to 5 inches; however, I think this is because of the 7-inch coil. If you use an 8-inch coil, you will probably be able to go deeper. You have the ability to set the Fast Tracker to an all metal setting. This model is not equipped with a switch to activate the all metal mode, so you have to physically mark the place on the dial that signifies your preferable setting.
Pros of the Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker:
- Superior discrimination that is on par with other detectors
- Simple to operate
- Does not weigh a lot and is comfortable to use
- Inexpensive in order to allow more people to try out this activity
- A 5-year guarantee
Cons of the Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker:
- The body is not very sturdy; however, this did not seem to impact its effectiveness.
- Nothing on the machine tells me when I have a dying battery. I believe the more recent Fast Trackers give a low battery signal. For what I paid, this detector is shockingly effective. I would buy it again in a second. The Fast Tracker is perfect for someone just getting into metal detecting, or to have as a backup when a friend wants to come along on a hunt with you.
